Dress #155 Spinach

This looks so refreshingly cool---on a very hot day. Spinach with lemon and tomato trim.

Dress #154 Necco Wafers

In New England, there is the New England Candy and Confectionary Company. Guess what? They make Necco wafers. I've used them to make a dress although I thought they were only good for the roofs on gingerbread houses.

Dress #153 Cape Cod Hydrangea

We've been on Cape Cod for the last week, and the hydrangeas here are so beautiful. They make a beautiful dress as well. Thank you, Roni, Adam, Nate, Jack and Alexa for the perfect summer vacation.

Dress #152 Pink Lady

Inspired by my friend Kim and a post on her 365 day project, I thought about making a dress with apples. This involved a Granny Smith and a Pink Lady. And a piece of inedible ribbon.

Dress #151 One Shoulder Sundress

Love this print. Love this style. I think it looks so cool and yet sophisticated. Fabric and ribbon.

Dress #150 Watermelon

What's summer without watermelon? In my opinion, it is the fruit with the best color combination. The red is a very old hand towel supplemented by some Sharpie seeds, ribbon and another fabric.

Dress #149 Quilt Sundress

This is made from a couple of embroidered quilt squares I made some time ago. The quilts made by this embroidery process are beautiful, but I found it a bit tedious.

Dress #148 Lobster

Blue denim with an embroidered lobster---this is made from a dinner napkin purchased a few years ago on Cape Cod. I only eat lobsters in Maine or on Cape Cod.

Dress #147 Paris Tissue

This is made from one of those to-pretty-to-use packages of tissues sold by the cash register. I just couldn't resist this pattern. And no, I haven't used one for its intended purpose.

Dress #146 Kimchi Ribbon

I'm a fan of the Korean pickled cabbage called kimchi. I saw this in the fridge, and knew I had a complimentary ribbon. Not your everyday dress....

Dress #145 Midsummer Night's Dream

Wouldn't it be fun to have a Midsummer Night party some year? This is the type of dress I imagine wearing to such a party---this one is made of paper and tulle.

Dress #144 Flowered Top

A flowered top and an organza skirt make this suitable for a summer wedding, I think. Fabric and ribbon from my collection.

Dress #143 Piano Recital

A dress to wear for the piano recital---or any other musical event. Made from a cotton print that's been aging gently for a few years.

Dress #142 Father's Day

This dress is made from one of my father's silk ties. A lovely dress for work this summer, I think.

Dress #141 Bonbel

The wax coating on the Bonbel cheese is so tactile! I carved a small dress into the coating of one of the mini cheeses. Next time I'll use one of the large ones!

Dress #140 Orange Straws

Another sundress! Delightful for this idyllic weather we are having here in Baltimore. It almost looks like seersucker, but is, obviously, made of plastic straws.

Dress #139 Flag Day

Today is Flag Day, and the city where I live is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the national anthem and the flag. So, of course, the dress needs to be red, white and blue stars and stripes. Made from a cocktail napkin.

Dress #138 Midriff Baring

Today's dress is designed to show off those toned abs in the summer. Kim? Roni? I've had this fabric in the stash for a few years.

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Dress #137 Smocked Top

I'd pictured this dress as being suitable for a bridesmaid dress at a sophisticated wedding. But now I'm not sure. What do you think? This is made from a decorator fabric from my stash.

Dress #136 Asparagus

Lovely green asparagus spears giving a lean and flouncy look to this dress. Frequently the asparagus I buy is bound with a purple rubber band, so this ribbon provides the same color combination and the empire silhouette.

Dress #135 Brazilian Sundress

These colors remind me of Brazilian beach wear, bright and sunny. The dress is made from a paper cocktail napkin.

Dress #134 Garden Party

Yesterday, I was in a store and the song "Garden Party" by Ricky Nelson was playing. I can't get the music out of my head. This dress is my vision of what to wear to a garden party.

Dress #133 Margaritaville

I didn't start out with this intention, but today's dress looks like she should go out for Margaritas! It is all paper---tissue paper and cardstock with a dragonfly bead for embellishment.

Dress #132 Gray Satin

A short cocktail dress today. Doesn't it look like silvery gray satin? The entire dress is made of balloons---love the style of the skirt.

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Dress #131 Green Plaid

Today's dress is a high-neck, sleeve sundress---perfect for showing off those well-toned arms. The fabric is a luscious Pima cotton shirting fabric.

Dress #130 Diamond Jubilee

Today's dress is inspired by the celebrations in London for Queen Elizabeth II. This dress is embroidered on netting which yields a lovely soft and drape-y fabric. The belt is a tennis bracelet that I don't wear anymore. Yes, real diamonds.

Dress #129 Syd's Birthday

A dress for a 10-year-old's birthday party, perhaps with cupcakes and polka dot frosting? Happy Birthday, Syd!            .

Dress #128 Guacamole Gown

It's green, it's flowy, it has a "red ribbon" sash. Guacamole with salsa for today.

Another prom dress, this time in gray metallic paper. Cut on the Silhouette Cameo from a design by Hero Arts.
